The image of me to the left was taken in the winter of 1964 by a friend in my neighborhood in Greensboro North Carolina where I grew up. I have a vivid memory of this day because we had a big snowfall the night before, school was closed and it was the first time in my life that I had a loaded camera to use all by myself. I can't remember who made the camera but it was a twin lens reflex type with the viewfinder on top and it looked something like this:

The word "gestalt" is defined as a symbolic configuration or pattern of elements so unified as a whole that its properties cannot be derived from a simple summation of its parts. And so it is now as it was that day in 1964 gazing through a small window at a snowbound world framed divine, hearing the precision click of the shutter and later holding it all on a piece of paper in my hand. James Joyce described an epiphany as that which you care to neither possess nor criticize but rather to frame, hold and understand its relationship between part and whole. I would hope to be found by images that speak of this relationship and frame the essential rhythm of life. This website, indeed my work, is offered as an opportunity to dance together with this rhythm held in place.
